Social Media and Marketing-Before and After

It's that time in the marketing universe where social media is taking over rapidly. Many believe that social media and marketing are the perfect techniques, which go wonderfully well together. A whooping majority of people are not only supporting the mix of social media and marketing but also developing on the trend that has taken up full-swing in the advertising and marketing arena.

So what was there prior to someone thought of using these two magnanimous techniques together for bringing a revolution the promotion function? The answer is innumerable efforts that businesses took for promoting themselves on websites and on-line. A number of ways and options were there then too for reaching a larger mass of audience.

The number of spam e-mails has also hugely reduced and so has the trend of e-mail marketing. It wasn't much long back that one used to receive a number of online marketing forms, requests and promotional mailers from companies. And such mails would keep spaming our inboxes until responded too. Even though the practice continues, the form and procedure has definitely changed. A quick and cursory look which gives the complete idea about the product is what is in demand today. That is the challenge that social media marketing mix has given rise to, creating "first-impression" campaigns.

Prior to social media marketing banner advertisements were used extensively online. Using third-party websites for self promotion and advertisement is a trick long used in online marketing. This way however has become outdated as many web users are now ignoring online advertisements and banners. In other words web visitors and users have ignorant and immune to the advertisements popping up time to time on web sites. They disregard it as a disturbance and some also wrongly think of it as a "virus" carrying message that could be harmful for the system.

Before the use of social media and marketing together, pay per click (PPC) was a relatively cheaper stuff. With the widespread use of social media techniques and the advent of SEO, PPC has been becoming out of reach day by day. Unless the trend is revised, it want take long for it to fade away.

The most visible change that has come with social media and marketing is the speedy exit of offline marketing. For those who prefer to call offline marketing as traditional marketing methods, we can say that these traditional marketing strategies have only managed to retain their creative essence and failed to beat user friendliness as well as extend beyond geographic barriers.
